About
I am an Associate Professor of Sociology at Dalhousie University. I received my Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
My work focuses on the stigmatization of science, misogyny in online communities, and how emerging science and technologies impact health. These projects have received support from the Mellon Foundation, the Killam Trusts, the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research, the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation, and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.
My book, Disqualified: The Stigmatization of Knowledge, is forthcoming with Oxford University Press. My research also appears in journals such as Social Problems, Gender & Society, Theory & Society, Sociology of Health and Illness, New Media & Society, and the Journal of Health and Social Behavior. I’ve discussed my work with many media outlets, including NBC News, Newsweek, The Globe & Mail, Salon, CTV, and CBC.
